We are happy to announce that the Tunisian Powder Diffraction School (TPDS) will be held on March 2022 at the ‘’Palais des Sciences’’, Monastir, TUNISIA.

Bursary application

To keep the TPDS 2022 accessible to as many students as possible, we endeavour to keep charges affordable, and offer a limited number of bursaries.  The deadline for TPDS 2022 Bursary applications is 19th December 2021. All applications should be submitted by 23.59 on this date.

The Bursary committee will select the most excellent and motivated students and provide them with financial support. The decision will be made based on:

  1.     Curriculum Vitae
  2.     Recommendation letter from the supervisor or head of the department/group
  3.     Letter of motivation

Eligibility

  • Applicants have to be based (i.e. studying) in crystallography. Citizenship may be from any country (i.e. also outside of North Africa).
  • Applicants must be graduated (PhD students/ doctoral degree) when applying.
  • Applicants must still be considered as young scientists (< 30 years) when applying.
  • Young scientists employed by industry are not eligible.

Powder-diffraction methods have demonstrated an ever increasing range of applications in materials science, chemistry, physics, life sciences and engineering.

The purpose of the TPDS 2022 is to explore during 3 days the the basic theory behind powder diffraction with the help and the guide of recognized experts in the field. Participants are supposed to be already familiar with both the fundamentals of crystallography and X-ray powder diffraction.

This School aims to cover all stages of sample analysis, beginning at sample preparation, experimental setup through to wavelength refinement and qualitative and quantitative analysis. In support of this, topics to be covered will include:
- BASIC PRINCIPLES OF CRYSTALLOGRAPHY
- POWDER DIFFRACTION INSTRUMENTATION
- PHYSICS OF DIFFRACTION AND CRYSTALLOGRAPHY IN RECIPROCAL SPACE
- INTRODUCTION TO POWDER DIFFRACTION THEORY & INTERPRETATION OF XRPD PATTERNS
- POWDER DIFFRACTION AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

We invite PhD’s and postdocs to apply for this course. We encourage participants to register and give a description of their science case and how they would like to use diffraction and crystallography to answer the related questions. Participants will have the occasion .

The closing date for applications is the 26th December at 11.59pm. Applicants will be informed if they have been successful by Tunisian Association of Crystallography (ATC) on the 5th January.
